The Calorie Counter Standard exists to give a straight answer to one question: which calorie counting app should you use? This page explains how we keep that answer honest.
Do we accept sponsored placements from calorie counter apps?
We do not accept payment to include an app, to rank it higher, or to write a favourable review. No app developer can buy a position in our rankings, our reviews, or our comparisons. Placement is decided entirely by test results.
How are the calorie counter app rankings decided?
Every app runs through the same 120-day CCS protocol, weighed reference meals, dual-reviewer scoring across six categories, and an twelve-week adherence panel. The protocol is documented in full on the methodology page. Scores are reconciled by an editor before publication.
Do we use affiliate links?
Some outbound links to apps may be affiliate links, meaning we could earn a small commission if you sign up after clicking. Where that is the case:
- It never influences whether an app is included or how it is ranked.
- It never changes a score or the wording of a review.
- Rankings are finalised from test data before any commercial links are added.
If we ever cannot maintain that separation for a given product, we will not run an affiliate link for it.
How do we handle corrections?
We publish corrections promptly. If you believe something on this site is inaccurate, email corrections@calorie-counters.com or use the contact page.
What does editorial independence mean here?
If an app is at the top of our ranking, it is because it earned it in testing, not because it paid to be there.
