Who are we?
The Calorie Counter Standard ("we", "us", "our") publishes editorial reviews and rankings of calorie counting and nutrition apps at calorie-counters.com. This policy explains how personal information is handled when you visit the site, contact us, or otherwise interact with our content.
What information do we collect?
We collect only what is needed to operate the site and respond to enquiries:
1. Information you give us directly
- The contents of any email you send us (to hello@calorie-counters.com or related addresses).
- Any feedback or correction request you submit.
2. Information collected automatically
- Server logs. IP address, user-agent (browser type and version), pages requested, referrer URL, and timestamps. Used for security, abuse prevention, and operational diagnostics. Retained briefly, then aggregated or deleted.
- Privacy-respecting analytics. Aggregate page-view and traffic data used to understand which content is useful. We use providers that do not build cross-site advertising profiles.
- Essential cookies. Session preferences (e.g. theme selection) where applicable.
3. Information we do not collect
- We do not require an account or login to read this site.
- We do not collect dietary, weight, or health information from readers.
- We do not use third-party ad-tracking pixels (Facebook Pixel, Google Ads conversion tags, etc.).
How do we use your information?
We use the information described above only to:
- Operate, secure, and improve the site.
- Respond to your messages, corrections, or questions.
- Understand aggregate audience behaviour so we can improve the content.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, share it with advertisers for profiling, or provide it to the calorie tracking apps we review.
Do we use cookies?
We use the minimum cookies needed for the site to work, plus aggregated, anonymised analytics. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles. You can block any cookie category in your browser settings and the site will continue to function normally.
Cookie categories used:
- Strictly necessary, session continuity and security.
- Analytics (anonymised), aggregate page-view data; IP addresses are masked or truncated before storage where supported by our provider.
Which third parties do we share data with?
This site links to external resources and to the websites and app-store listings of the products we review. Once you follow an outbound link, the privacy policy of the destination site applies and is outside our control. Examples of common destinations:
- Welling, MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, MacroFactor and other reviewed apps.
- App Store and Google Play listings.
- Reference resources such as USDA FoodData Central, NIH, and Examine.com.
How long do we keep your data?
Server logs are retained for the minimum period needed for security and diagnostics, then aggregated or deleted. Aggregated analytics are retained for longer to identify long-term trends, but they cannot be linked to individual visitors. Email correspondence is retained for as long as needed to follow up on the conversation.
What are your privacy rights?
Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:
- Access, confirm whether we hold personal data about you and request a copy.
